Sun in Libra

Wow! We’ve made it through the first half of the year! Well, in the western zodiac year because we start at Aries (it makes sense to start something new in Spring as opposed to the dead of winter like the Georgian calendar does) and conclude with the northern part of our chart in Virgo. Today as the sun rises, Libra comes over the horizon to start the second half of the year. You can even see it in our symbol ♎️ See the line on the bottom is the horizon and the hump on top is the sun coming up. Cool, amirite?

Anywho, the northern hemisphere or the bottom of the birth chart (I know it’s confusing. The top is the bottom?!?) is our private lives or how we deal with life as an individual. We start with what’s rising in the eastern part of the chart with Aries “I am” and through our senses (Taurus), learning (Gemini), feeling (Cancer), playfulness (Leo), and then analyzing all this information (Virgo) , we’re ready to begin to incorporate others into the equation of our lives. Enter the southern part of the chart or what we do with what we’ve been given.

Looking from the “I am” of the first house, we go to the “we are” of the 7th house of Libra, relationships and justice. The 7th house is also your descendent and is opposite your ascendant or your rising sign. The sign you have here, can indicate the people you like to have relationships with, not just romantic but friends, and business partners, too. This is why a lot of Libra’s seem very friendly and some may interpret that as flirty. I’m sure some of the flirting is true because Libra, like Taurus is ruled by the planet of love, Venus.

The biggest challenge for Libra is balancing the “I am” with the “we are” and if we’re not careful we can become extremely selfish or mad codependent. This can be difficult to manage because the sun in Libra is in its fall position. That is, the sun is not very comfortable here, he likes to shine on the individual and be the main focus, but Libra does best when sharing the limelight in a positive partnership. Spotlights aren’t meant for two, I guess?

Also, Libra is a cardinal sign. Cardinal signs start a season (helloooo autumn or spring depending on your hemisphere) and we like to start beautiful projects. Think lovely Marie Kondo, the Tidying Up lady. She’ll come in to help you start cleaning your house and then leave. She comes back 30 days later, you’ve done all the work, and then you thank her for it with lots of money! Classic Libra shenanigans! But the intellect behind that is genius. Libra’s use that airy intellect with their ruler Venus to create beauty and most of us are born artists, like myself!

For us airy intellects, to calm the constant calculations of your considering mind, we can benefit from meditation or mindfulness practice. And don’t feel guilty to taking some much needed “me” time out of your “we” time. Yes, we will be missed but when we return whole and balanced, no one will believe that the spotlight doesn’t shine brightly on us.
